Life Leaves

The willow weeps
twice each day
for the dearly departed
and for those who stay.

Her leaves dance
in the river
and on the ground below.
Though the souls
flying up above
surely must know

what it is to live,
to love and be loved.
The meaning of life,
well, sort of.

The gods may say
the point is to go on living
any way you can.
Live for this god
or that, perhaps
in the promised land.

Though it remains this willow
that weeps twice a day.
So we go on hoping
the winds blow the right way.
